Outbrain to Data Studio (ex Looker Studio): FAQ

Answers to common questions about connecting data to spreadsheets, dashboards, AI assistants, and reporting tools with Catchr.

How do I connect Outbrain to Looker Studio?

Add an Outbrain connection in Catchr using the login credentials requested in the connection form, then select the advertiser account available to that user. Open the Catchr connector in Looker Studio and create your data source. Build an initial table with Campaign Name, Spend, Impressions and Clicks, and compare it with the same account and dates in Outbrain.

Is Outbrain the same connector as Outbrain DSP?

Catchr lists Outbrain and Outbrain DSP separately. This Outbrain connector reads advertiser reporting through the Amplify API, including campaigns, promoted content and publisher performance. Choose the connector that matches the product where your account and campaigns are managed; credentials and reporting fields are not interchangeable simply because the names are similar.

Can I report on individual promoted content and publishers?

Yes. Catchr exposes promoted-content titles, URLs and identifiers, plus publisher names, URLs and identifiers. Use these to compare which content earns clicks and which publishers deliver results. Available combinations depend on the reporting endpoint: a promoted-content or publisher summary is not automatically available with every daily, campaign and geographic breakdown in one chart.

Which conversion metrics should I use for Outbrain reporting?

The catalog includes Conversions, View Conversions and Total Conversions, with corresponding value and efficiency metrics. Choose the metric family that matches the attribution scope of your Outbrain comparison. Outbrain also lets you decide which conversion events contribute to total conversion reporting, so check that configuration before treating the total as purchases or leads. Keep those outcomes separate if they represent different goals.

Why does adding Conversion Name change my spend total?

When Conversion Name is selected, the connector produces rows for individual conversion events. Delivery metrics can be repeated across those rows, so summing Spend, Clicks or Impressions across conversion names can overcount them. Keep delivery scorecards in a chart without Conversion Name, and use a separate chart for the event-level conversion measures.

Why does Outbrain report more conversions than GA4?

The tools can use different attribution rules, conversion definitions and date conventions. Outbrain may credit a conversion after an ad interaction while GA4 credits another channel or does not record the same event. Compare the same outcome and period, distinguish click and view conversions, and check tracking setup before interpreting the gap. A connector transfers the platform report; it does not make the two attribution models identical.

Can I compare Outbrain campaigns with Taboola in one report?

Yes. Add the Taboola connector alongside Outbrain and align dates, currencies and outcome definitions. Compare spend and clicks first, then choose equivalent conversion measures. Calculate aggregate CPC as total spend divided by total clicks rather than averaging row-level CPC values. Keep platform-attributed conversions labelled by source because the same outcome may be claimed by both platforms.
