Data Studio: how to refresh data for updated reports

How to refresh data in Data Studio ?
Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio) is an excellent tool to present your dashboard, but you need to know when your data is being served and how to refresh it !
By default, Data Studio uses a cache system, so you do not always have the freshest data.
Data Studio report last update ?
You can check at the bottom left of the report page, in view mode, to see the last refresh date and time. If it does not match the last time you refresh the page, then Data Studio serves the data from the cache.
How to refresh your Data Studio report and avoid the cache ?
Open your report, at the top right corner, click on the 3 dots. Then clicks on Refresh Data.
This refreshes the cache for every data source that is added to the report, forcing it to request fresh data to its connector.
Each connector has its own rules for data freshness, so you should ask your connector providers.
For Catchr, each connector is live, so every time you hit the Refresh data button, you always get the freshest data.
How to refresh a data source
Open your report and click on "Resource".
Then "Manage added data sources".
There are two ways to refresh the data source:
- Edit connection: select your account and click on reconnect.
- Refresh fields: click on the button at the bottom left and click on continue.
Essential for keeping the connection up to date or for easily modifying a data source!
