Explore Instagram accounts, content and profile actions

Start with the client account and reporting period, then focus on the question you need to answer. Keep account totals and media performance separate so each number has a clear meaning in your report.

01

Put follower counts and profile reach in context

Review Profile Followers, Follower Count and Profile Reach alongside the account name or username. Profile Followers describes the total accounts following a profile; Follower Count describes accounts that followed during the selected period.

Use these distinctions to explain audience size and new follows accurately. Follower Count alone does not establish net follower growth, and Profile follows measures accounts the client profile follows.

02

Compare content reach and interactions

Explore Media reach, Media Interaction and Media Engagement Rate with Media Product type and Media created at. Separate FEED, STORY and REELS content when reviewing which publishing surfaces deserve closer attention.

Media Engagement Rate divides Media Interaction by Media Reach. Media Interaction includes likes, saves, comments and shares, adjusted for removed interactions. Check metric availability for each media type before making comparisons.

03

Review activity on the Instagram profile

Use Profile view and Website Clicks to review profile attention and taps on the client's website link. Email Contacts, Directions clicks and Text Message Clicks add detail about other profile actions where available.

Bring these measures into client reporting to discuss how people interact with the profile. Website clicks measure link taps; they do not establish purchases or completed enquiries.

Connect Catchr MCP to your AI assistant

Connect Instagram to Catchr using OAuth and select the relevant client accounts. Choose ChatGPT or Claude through Catchr MCP, then start with a question about a named profile, reporting period and set of measures.

For content analysis, specify whether you want feed posts, Stories or Reels so the question can account for differences in available metrics.

Four Instagram questions for your next client review

Replace the bracketed values with your client accounts, dates and review thresholds. Each prompt defines a practical reporting task and asks for the limits needed to interpret the results.

PROMPT 01

Prepare a profile performance comparison

Using Catchr, compare Profile Reach, Profile view and Website Clicks for Instagram account [account] during [start date] to [end date] against [comparison start date] to [comparison end date]. Show each period's values and absolute changes, plus percentage changes where the comparison value is nonzero. Use period-level Profile Reach rather than summing daily unique reach. Summarize the changes for a client call and identify missing values.

PROMPT 02

Compare feed, Story and Reels performance

Using Catchr, review Instagram media for [account] created between [start date] and [end date]. Compare FEED, STORY and REELS using available Media reach, Media Interaction and Media Engagement Rate values. Show the median media-level engagement rate for each supported group and flag groups above [engagement rate threshold]. Identify unsupported metrics and explain any gaps in Story coverage before suggesting topics for a content review.

PROMPT 03

Clarify follower numbers across client accounts

Using Catchr, prepare a follower summary for Instagram accounts [accounts] for [start date] to [end date], labeled by username. Show available Profile Followers totals separately from Follower Count for the selected period. Flag accounts with period follows below [new follower threshold]. Explain the difference between these measures, do not sum follower totals across dates, and do not label period follows as net growth.

PROMPT 04

Find days with fewer website clicks

Using Catchr, show daily Website Clicks and Profile view for Instagram account [account] from [start date] to [end date]. Flag days with Website Clicks below [daily click threshold] and compare their profile views with the other days in the period. Separate missing values from zeros and draft client discussion points without treating website clicks as conversions.

Questions about Instagram reporting with Catchr MCP

How do I connect Instagram to Catchr MCP?

Authorize Instagram in Catchr through OAuth, select the relevant accounts and choose ChatGPT or Claude through Catchr MCP. Start by specifying the client account, reporting period and measures you want to review, such as Profile Reach and Website Clicks.

What is the difference between Profile Followers and Follower Count?

Profile Followers is the total number of unique accounts following the profile. Follower Count measures accounts that followed during the selected period, so it is not a net growth measure. Profile follows is different again: it counts accounts the profile itself follows.

Can I use the same metrics for feed posts, Stories and Reels?

Metric availability depends on the media type. Reels do not support the feed and Story profile-action metrics follows, profile visits and profile activity. Separate comparisons by Media Product type and check supported metrics. The account-level Impressions field is a deprecated alias populated from views, so it should not be presented as a separate measure of impressions.

Can Catchr retrieve expired Instagram Stories for an older report?

Expired Stories cannot be backfilled from Instagram for old date ranges. Instagram exposes only currently available Stories through its Stories endpoint. When reviewing historical content, identify gaps in Story coverage rather than interpreting missing Stories as zero activity.
