Bring Semrush evidence into your client conversations

Choose a Semrush report and its compatible fields to answer a specific client question. Explore domain overview and history, organic and paid keywords, organic and paid competitors, or the current backlink overview. Keep each report separate so its dates, estimates and metrics retain their meaning.

01

Find organic keywords worth a closer look

Review search keywords alongside the domain’s result position and landing page URL in the selected regional database. Identify pages associated with keywords in a position range you choose, then prepare a focused list for content review.

Keyword observations can include a Semrush observation timestamp. Monthly reports also identify the requested snapshot month; this is separate from the observation time.

02

Explain changes in a domain’s search footprint

Use domain history to compare organic keyword counts and Semrush domain rank across selected completed months. Include actual report dates so clients can see which observations support the comparison. Domain rank reflects estimated organic search traffic, not an individual keyword’s position.

Domain overview and history also provide estimated organic traffic cost equivalents and estimated paid traffic costs in USD. Label these as Semrush estimates when including them in a client report.

03

Summarize a client’s current backlink profile

Build a root-domain backlink summary with Authority Score, total backlinks and referring domains. Add referring URLs, IP addresses or class C IP networks when the review needs more detail.

Review follow, nofollow, sponsored and user-generated-content link counts, or examine text and image link counts. The backlink overview is current-only, so use it to describe the available snapshot rather than a historical trend.

Choose how to work with Semrush data

A focused domain investigation, a recurring client report and a question before a client call need different workflows. Keep the Semrush report, regional database and time period explicit whichever method you choose.

Connect Catchr MCP to your AI assistant

Connect Semrush with a v3 API key that has Standard API access and sufficient API units. Configure your root-domain targets, select one as the reporting account, and choose a report with compatible fields. For SEO reports, select the desktop regional database you need; the default is us and the United Kingdom code is uk.

Then connect your AI destination through Catchr MCP and ask about the selected domain. A v4 key cannot authenticate these reports, and a valid key with no remaining units cannot retrieve report data.

Four Semrush questions for your next client review

Replace the bracketed values with your client’s domain, reporting period and review criteria. Each prompt uses a single report to keep the analysis tied to compatible Semrush fields.

PROMPT 01

Build a keyword review list

Using Catchr, query the current Semrush organic keywords report for [root domain] in [regional database]. Which keywords have positions between [minimum position] and [maximum position]? Return keyword, position, landing page URL and observation timestamp where available, ordered by position. Group the findings by landing page for a client content review.

PROMPT 02

Prepare a domain history briefing

Using Catchr, query Semrush domain history for [root domain] in [regional database] from [start completed month] to [end completed month], within the supported 1–24 completed months. Show actual report dates, organic keyword counts and domain rank. Calculate changes between available observations and summarize the largest organic keyword count changes. Keep domain rank separate from keyword positions and do not sum or average ranks.

PROMPT 03

Review paid search ad messaging

Using Catchr, query the current Semrush paid keywords report for [root domain] in [regional database]. Return ad title, ad description, ad block, visible URL, landing page URL and average CPC in USD. Which ad titles and descriptions appear in the returned rows, and which landing pages are associated with them? Summarize the messaging themes for a client review without treating CPC as actual account spend.

PROMPT 04

Draft a current backlink summary

Using Catchr, query the current Semrush backlinks overview for [root domain]. What do Authority Score, total links and referring domains show about the available backlink profile? Include follow, nofollow, sponsored and user-generated-content link counts, and flag whether referring domains fall below [review threshold]. Present a concise client briefing without inferring historical growth.

Semrush MCP setup and reporting questions

What do I need to connect Semrush to Catchr?

You need a Semrush v3 API key with Standard API access and sufficient API units, plus a configured list of root domains. Select one domain for reporting. These domains are chosen reporting targets, not a discovered account inventory or proof of ownership. A v4 key does not work for these reports.

Can I compare Semrush data across dates?

Monthly mode supports 1–24 completed calendar months and rejects ranges containing the current or a future month. Current mode returns one snapshot regardless of the date range, except domain history, which always filters to the selected completed months. Backlink overview is current-only. A requested snapshot month is distinct from a Semrush observation date.

How should I interpret Semrush rank and cost fields?

Domain rank reflects estimated organic search traffic; organic keyword position is the domain’s search result position for a specific keyword. Organic cost is an estimated USD advertising cost equivalent of organic traffic, while paid cost estimates the cost of paid search traffic. Present these estimates separately from actual advertising account spend.

Why might a Semrush reporting query fail?

A query can fail because of an invalid key, missing report or database access, exhausted API units, or an extraction limit. A supported regional database code does not guarantee access for your key. If a row or API-unit limit is reached before completion can be verified, Catchr returns an error rather than presenting an incomplete report as complete.
