Ask your Google Sheets data with Catchr MCP

Prepare for client calls with answers from the spreadsheets your agency already uses. Connect a Google Sheets spreadsheet, select its tabs, and ask ChatGPT or Claude to explore the data through Catchr MCP.

Summarize the columns you choose, check rows that need attention, and keep spreadsheet and tab references alongside your findings. Queries use the current snapshot of your selected tabs.

Explore your columns, tabs, and source rows

Your spreadsheet defines what you can analyze. Start by discovering the columns available in your selected tabs, then choose the fields that matter for your client report. Google Sheets also provides spreadsheet, tab, and row references to help you check the results.

01

Analyze the columns in your client spreadsheet

Discover the available headers and field types before asking for a summary. Choose numeric columns for calculations, text columns for grouping, and actual spreadsheet date columns when your question needs a date range.

There is no fixed set of Google Sheets metrics. The analysis depends on the columns and values in the tabs you select. Mixed data types can limit which calculations are appropriate.

02

Keep each selected tab in context

Use Google Sheets Spreadsheet Name and Spreadsheet ID to identify the connected file. Tab Name, Tab ID, and Tab Index identify the selected tabs within it; Tab Index starts at zero.

When reviewing several tabs, check their column order and meaning before combining results. Columns across selected tabs are matched by position, so matching labels alone are not enough to establish a consistent layout.

03

Trace exceptions back to their rows

Include Google Sheets Row Number alongside the tab name when asking for missing values or entries above a chosen threshold. Row Number starts at one and helps you locate the corresponding entry in the selected tab.

These references make a client review easier to verify. They describe the current snapshot; they do not provide a history of edits or previous row values.

Connect Catchr MCP to your AI assistant

Provide the Google Sheets spreadsheet URL or ID when connecting through Catchr, then authorize access with Google. Select the readable GRID tabs you want to use; Catchr does not browse your Drive to list spreadsheets.

Connect Catchr MCP to ChatGPT or Claude and discover the available columns before your first analysis. At least one readable GRID tab is required. If you change headers or column types, refresh the fields before updating your questions or reports.

Four prompts for your next spreadsheet review

Start with column discovery, then replace the bracketed placeholders with your selected spreadsheet, tabs, and discovered columns. Each prompt gives you a concrete task for preparing or checking client reporting.

PROMPT 01

Check which columns are ready for analysis

Using Catchr, discover the available columns and field types in [spreadsheet] for [selected tabs]. List them by tab and identify which support numeric summaries, grouping, or date filtering. Check whether column positions and meanings align across the tabs, and flag any differences before suggesting a combined report.

PROMPT 02

Prepare a client summary from selected columns

Using Catchr, discover the columns in [spreadsheet] and [tab]. Using [selected numeric column] and [selected grouping column] from that list, calculate totals by group and show the number of contributing rows. If [selected date column] is available, restrict the summary to [start date] through [end date]. Include the spreadsheet and tab names, and flag missing or incompatible values that affect the summary.

PROMPT 03

Find rows that need a closer look

Using Catchr, discover the columns in [spreadsheet] and [tab], then inspect [selected numeric column]. List rows with values above [threshold] and separately list rows where that column is blank. Include [selected context columns], Google Sheets Tab Name, and Google Sheets Row Number so I can locate each entry. Report incompatible values separately from blanks.

PROMPT 04

Check repeated entries before reporting

Using Catchr, discover the columns in [spreadsheet] and [tab]. Check for repeated combinations of values across [selected identifying columns]. Return each repeated combination, its occurrence count, and the corresponding Google Sheets Row Numbers. Keep blank identifying values separate and describe the results as potential duplicates for review.

Google Sheets MCP questions

How do I choose the spreadsheet and tabs to connect?

Enter a spreadsheet URL or ID during the Catchr connection flow and authorize access with Google. Then select the readable GRID tabs to query. Catchr does not enumerate your Drive, and the connection requires at least one readable GRID tab.

Which Google Sheets metrics and columns can I query?

The available columns come from your selected tabs. Discover them before choosing fields for calculations or grouping. You can also use spreadsheet ID and name, tab ID, name and index, and row number to identify where results came from.

Can I query historical spreadsheet values or filter by date?

The source reads the current snapshot, not earlier versions of the spreadsheet. Date analysis must use actual date columns in your sheet. If those columns contain historical records, you can ask about those records; dates are not generated to fill missing history.

What should I check before analyzing several tabs together?

Check that columns have the same meaning in the same positions. Across selected tabs, columns are matched by position, the first label is retained, and conflicting types become text. Refresh the fields after header or type changes, and review the discovered columns before combining results.
