How to remove a data source from a Looker Studio report?

Looker Studio reports can contain multiple data sources. If you do not manage them, your data source column can easily become a mess.

We will see here how to remove a data source and what can be the consequences.

Remove your data source from a report:

You can remove your data source by following these steps:

  • Click on the "Resource" menu. Then select "Manage added data sources".
Go to "Manage added data source" in your Looker Studio report
  • Locate the data source you want to remove
  • Click remove and confirm.

This data source will not appear again in your report!

How do you know if a data source is used before removing it?

You can check the column "Used in report" in the same menu. It will let you know how many charts use this data source.

Number of charts that uses this data source in your report.

If you remove it anyway, all charts with this data source will show an error.

Embedded and Reusable data source:

If you remove an embedded data source, it will be removed permanently.

If you remove a reusable data source, it will only be removed from the current report.
